Linda’s Tibetan Project Linda has traveled to Tibet twice with the Gar Tibet Health Project www.tibethealthproject.org to bring life-saving medical information and treatment to women who have been giving birth in their homes or tents without any assistance. Linda adapted a curriculum developed by the American College of Nurse-Midwives to teach them methods to maintain their health during pregnancy as well as techniques for labor and birth to prevent complications such as post-partum hemorrhage and perinatal infection. The project has also distributed over 200 "birth kits" to Tibetan women. She has also brought them information about birth control and the risks of STD’s and HIV. Fairview Hospital, other community businesses, and individuals have been generous with donations for this project. If you would like to donate items for use on her next trip you may contact her by e mail at lbaxter@bhs1.org. Useful items include generic Tylenol or Advil for both adults and children, iron tablets, prenatal and children’s multivitamins, and antacid medicines. Sunglasses (with UV protection) and used prescription glasses are badly needed (not bifocals). |
